These Cottage Cheese Bagels are a high-protein, low-effort twist on a classic comfort food. Soft, chewy, and incredibly versatile, they’re perfect for breakfast, lunch, or anytime snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cottage cheese (full-fat or low-fat)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or self-rising flour)
  • 2 tsp baking powder (only if using all-purpose flour)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional: Everything bagel seasoning
  • Optional: Garlic powder or chopped herbs
  • Optional: Shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix cottage cheese and flour (plus baking powder if using all-purpose flour) until dough forms.
  3. Knead dough a few times until smooth but slightly tacky.
  4. Divide dough into 4–6 equal parts, roll into ropes, and shape into bagels.
  5. Brush each bagel with beaten egg and sprinkle with desired toppings.
  6. Bake for 22–25 minutes. Broil for 1–2 minutes at the end if desired for extra color.
  7. Let cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Strain excess liquid from cottage cheese if watery. Use full-fat for richer flavor. Try freezing shaped dough for later baking. Egg wash helps achieve golden crust and helps toppings stick.
